Certifications, Awards, and Credentials

Anyone can call themselves a roofer. Not everyone can back it up with the certifications, manufacturer partnerships, and third-party recognition that separate a professional contractor from the rest. Big River Roofing is based at 2404 E State St in Hermitage, PA, and we hold the credentials Mercer County homeowners should expect from a serious roofing contractor. BBB A+ rating. Manufacturer certifications from IKO, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed. Current safety training. Multiple local and national awards. Fully licensed, bonded, and insured.

Why Certifications Matter

Roofing is one of the most unregulated trades in construction. Anyone with a pickup truck and a ladder can print business cards and start knocking on doors after a storm. The damage from bad roof installations is not always visible right away. A cheap job can look fine for the first year or two, then start failing in ways that cost homeowners tens of thousands of dollars to correct.

Certifications are how you tell the difference before you sign a contract. A manufacturer certification means the contractor has met the installation standards the shingle maker requires. A state registration means the contractor has met Pennsylvania’s legal requirements for home improvement work. An A+ BBB rating means the contractor has resolved complaints and built a track record. A local award means the contractor has earned the trust of neighbors who voted for them.

None of those things guarantee a perfect job. But together, they are the best filter homeowners have for separating real contractors from bad ones.

Our Manufacturer Certifications

Big River Roofing holds certifications from the leading shingle manufacturers in North America, meeting the installation standards required to unlock the strongest warranty tiers each brand offers. These credentials are not honorary titles,  they require documented training, verified installation practices, and an ongoing commitment to quality that protects every homeowner we work with.

IKO Craftsman Premier Roofer

IKO is our primary shingle brand, and we are a certified IKO Craftsman Premier Roofer. This certification is not automatic. It requires documented installation experience, manufacturer training, and ongoing qualification reviews. IKO produces some of the best asphalt shingles on the market, with strong wind ratings, long warranties, and excellent weathering performance. Most of our architectural shingle and luxury shingle installations use IKO products, and the certification lets us offer enhanced warranty coverage that non-certified contractors cannot.

Owens Corning Preferred Installer

Owens Corning is our secondary shingle brand, and we are an Owens Corning Preferred Installer. Owens Corning is one of the most recognized names in residential roofing, with a product line that covers everything from entry-level 3-tab shingles to premium designer shingles. Preferred Installer status means we have met Owens Corning’s training and installation quality standards, and we are authorized to install their products with the full warranty coverage their program offers.

CertainTeed Master Shingle Installer

CertainTeed is our specialty and high-end brand, used most often for premium and designer roof installations. CertainTeed Master Shingle Installer certification is one of the more demanding credentials in the asphalt shingle industry. It requires advanced training, documented installation quality, and ongoing reviews. When homeowners want a top-tier roof with CertainTeed’s heaviest-duty products, this is the certification that authorizes us to install them to warranty spec.

Brava Tile

For homeowners who want a truly premium roof, we also offer Brava Tile as a high-end option. Brava makes synthetic tile, slate, and shake products that deliver the look of traditional slate or cedar shake at a lower weight and lower cost, with longer expected lifespans than the original materials. For the right Mercer County home, Brava is an excellent alternative to real slate or cedar shake.

RainDrop Pro Gutter Guards

On the gutter side, we install RainDrop Pro Gutter Guards as part of our full gutter and gutter protection systems. Not every gutter guard works. Most are marketing products that clog, sag, or pop off in a hard rain. RainDrop Pro is one of the few systems we trust enough to offer to our customers.

State and Legal Credentials

2026 Lancaster Safety Trained

Our crew completed Lancaster Safety Consulting training in 2026, which covers current OSHA standards, fall protection protocols, personal protective equipment requirements, and jobsite safety procedures. Lancaster Safety Consulting is a recognized training provider in the construction industry, and keeping our certification current means our crew is trained to the latest standards.

OSHA Compliance

Roofing is one of the most dangerous trades in construction. OSHA data shows that falls account for roughly one-third of all construction fatalities nationwide, and residential roofing carries a higher fall risk than most other building trades. We follow OSHA standards on every jobsite, and we use proper harnesses, anchors, and fall arrest systems any time our crew is on a roof.

Safety is not just about protecting our crew, though that is the first reason. A contractor who cuts safety corners is almost always cutting other corners too. The same attention to detail that gets a crew home safely every day is what gets your roof installed correctly.

Awards and Recognition

BBB A+ Rating

We hold an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, which is the highest rating the BBB issues. BBB ratings reflect a company’s complaint history, responsiveness, and overall track record with customers. Any homeowner can look up any contractor’s BBB rating before hiring them, and we encourage it. Third-party verification is always a good idea.

Elite Service Winner – Angi

We are an Elite Service winner on Angi (formerly Angie’s List). Angi’s Elite Service award is given to contractors who maintain consistently high customer ratings and excellent service records. It is not a paid award, and it reflects ongoing customer feedback rather than a one-time review.

Certifications Are Part of the Standard, Not the Whole Story

Credentials matter, but they are not a substitute for character. Don built Big River Roofing around four values: honesty, communication, reliability, and doing what you say you are going to do. Our about page covers more on how those values show up in day-to-day work.

Certifications prove we can install a roof to manufacturer spec. Awards prove our neighbors trust us. Insurance proves we are professionals. But the reason homeowners keep calling, keep referring to their neighbors, and keep voting us Best of the Best is that we show up when we say we will, finish what we start, and stand behind the work after the crew leaves.
